First round draft pick

Rick Sutcliffe, Butternut Bread pitcher and a Van Horn High School graduate, was drafted in the first round (21st pick) in 1974 by the Los Angeles Dodgers.  He went on to win 171 games in a major league career spanning 18 years with the Dodgers, Indians, Cubs, Orioles and Cardinals. He was the 1979 NL Rookie of the Year and 1984 NL Cy Young winner and a three time All-Star.
