Legends scorch Macaws, improve to 4-0

The Ban Johnson Legends got cooking at the plate early in both ends of a 10-5, 15-2 sweep against the MBC Academy Macaws on Wednesday at Creekside Baseball Complex in Parkville.

DH Bryce Dye (Fort Osage/Park) had a two-run double and 1B Zayne Morrow (Park Hill/MCC-Maple Woods) added an RBI single during a three-run first inning before Dye had an RBI single in a four-run second inning as the Legends blitzed to an early lead.

RHP Kyler Barnett (Truman/Park) made sure it would stand up, striking out five in four innings. He allowed a run on six hits and a walk.

The second game was more of the same.

Nine free baserunners led to six Legends runs in the first three innings, while 2B Drew Lippold (Shawnee Mission West/Iowa Western CC) delivered a two-run single in the fourth but it was a seven-run sixth inning that salted away the run-rule victory.

OF Gunnar Griffin (Raymore-Peculiar/MCC-Maple Woods), Dye and 3B Brendyn Bard (Piper/Kansas City Kansas CC) each had run-producing singles before C Spencer Ralston (Blue Valley North/Marshalltown [Iowa] CC) cranked a two-run double to polish off the onslaught.

After going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs in the opener, Dye went 3-for-3 with a walk, two more runs scored and two more RBIs. He also had a stolen base in both games.

Mustangs improve to 4-0

The Milgram Mustangs stayed perfect with an 8-2, 4-0 sweep against Natural Baseball Academy.

The fireworks started early for the Mustangs, who went in front with a three-run second inning powered by LF Jared Fulghem’s (Lee’s Summit West/MCC-Maple Woods) two-run blast and an RBI double from CF McClellan Cross (Park Hill/Rockhurst).

NBA trimmed the lead with a two-run fourth, but the Mustangs tacked on five in the bottom of the inning and weren’t challenged the rest of the way.

RF Matt Schrick (Atchison/MCC-Maple Woods) and 3B Avery Williams (Lee’s Summit West/Central Arkansas) delivered RBI singles and 1B Derek Blackmore (Rockhurst/Arkansas-Pine Bluff) smashed an RBI double in the decisive frame.

LHP Kellan Shilt (Lee’s Summit North/Rockhurst) started on the mound for the Mustangs, tossing three shutout innings and allowing only one hit with four strikeouts.

LHP Will Bolinger (Shawnee Mission East/Johnson County CC) finished up with three shutout innings of his own. He didn’t allow a hit, striking out seven and walking two in notching the save.

During the nightcap, four Mustangs pitchers combined for the shutout — including starter RHP Eddie Freidel (Liberty/Mineral Area CC), who got the win after allowing three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in three innings.

Schrick delivered a two-run double in the third and Cross had an RBI single during a two-run fourth.

Regal sweeps Raiders

Regal Plastic parlayed a pair of big early leads to an 8-4, 6-2 sweep against the reigning BJCL champion BJ Raiders.

3B Taylor Foss (Shawnee Mission West/Baker) socked an RBI double and 1B Brady Stickert (Blue Springs South/Northwest Missouri State) followed with a two-run home run as Regal jumped in front 3-0 in the opening frame of the opening game.

Regal Plastic assistant coach Christian Suk (left) visits with RHP Luke Fricker (14) and C Canton Sharp (4) during a mound visit against the BJ Raiders.

Powered by 2B Jacob Selock’s (Liberty/Northwest Missouri State) two-run double, the Raiders tied the game in the top of the fourth only to have Regal respond with their own three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by SS Ryan Kiser (Park Hill/Rockhurst) and RBI double by CF DJ Suonandajie (Nanjing Dongshan [China]/Rockhurst).

RF Will Fricker (Park Hill South/Johnson County CC) blasted a two-run home run an inning later for some insurance.

Suonandajie singled and came around to score on a passed ball in the first inning. It was the only hit Regal managed in the game, but walks, errors, hit batters and wild pitches added up to a four-run second inning and an early 5-0 lead.

That was plenty for RHP Jake Canent (Blue Valley North/Rockhurst), who scattered three hits and a walk across four shutout innings with seven strikeouts in earning the win.

Giants, Stars split a pair of one-run contests

The NKC Apartments Giants blew a four-run seventh-inning lead, but pulled out a 9-8 win in the opening game against the Creche Innovations Stars, who rebounded for a 1-0 win in the nightcap to split the doubleheader.

SS SJ Hunter (Schlagle/North Central Missouri) had an RBI single in the first, 1B Jake Lufft (Blue Springs/MCC-Maple Woods) and 2B Jordan Rosenberg (Blue Valley North/Maryville) added RBI singles in the third and C JD Leslie (Clear Creek [Texas]/Avila) chipped in an RBI single in the fourth as the Giants built an 8-4 lead.

2B Quinton Robertson (Blue Springs South/Barton CC) and C Caden Matlon (Grain Valley/Dodge City CC), who finished 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, countered with RBI singles as the Stars mounted a four-run rally with two outs in the seventh.

The Giants managed to keep the Stars from taking the lead and won it on LF Howie Grauberger’s (Lee’s Summit West/Drury) walk-off RBI single.

Hunter went 3-for-3 and scored three times, while Lufft had two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs in the win.

It took an extra inning, but the Stars pulled out the split on 3B Riley Bown’s (Grain Valley/MCC-Maple Woods) walk-off single in the eighth inning.

RHP Clayton Medlin (Summit Christian/Rockhurst) struck out 11 in seven shutout innings for the Giants, scattering three hits and a walk, but he came out after 87 pitches in extra innings.

Meanwhile, RHP Bryan Bartels (Olathe West/Barton CC), RHP Jake Daneff (Park Hill/Emporia State), RHP Joe Daneff (Park Hill/Emporia State) and RHP Corey Bradford (Park Hill/Park) combined to silence the Giants’ bats in the win.

MSBL Royals overpower Knights

The MBSL Royals claimed a lopsided 10-1, 12-0 sweep against the KC Knights.

The opening game was close through four innings.

1B Lucas Pringle (Mill Valley/Neosho County CC) had staked the Royals to a lead with a first-inning RBI single, but it remained 1-0 into the fifth before manager Matt Crawford’s squad stretched its lead.

OF Josh Holmes (Shawnee Mission West/Butler CC), DH Braeden Schramm (Truman/Park) and SS Hayden Dyer (Gardner-Edgerton/Butler CC) each had RBI singles during a three-run fifth inning, while Holmes and Pringle had RBI doubles sandwiched around an RBI single from DH Connor Morehouse (Park Hill/William Jewell) in the five-run sixth.

RHP William Fisher (William Chrisman/William Jewell) was the beneficiary, picking up the win after going six innings. He scattered three hits and two walks, while striking out five.

The Royals didn’t let up in the second game, scoring six in the first inning and cruising to a five-inning win.

Fisher and OF Auggie Viles (Rockhurst/Chandler-Gilbert [Arizona] CC) started the scoring bonanza with back-to-back two-run singles and Holmes added another two-run single later in the first frame.

Viles added an RBI single in the second before 1B Zane Ragland (Lee’s Summit North/Northwest Missouri State) had the big blast, a two-run double, in a three-run third.

RHP Thomas Ford (St. Thomas Aquinas/Newman) struck out 10 in four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the win.

Adapt claims first win in split with BC

Building Champions used a five-run fourth inning to power a 7-3 win against Adapt Physical Therapy, but the BJCL newcomers bounced back with an 8-4 win — Adapt’s first in the league — to earn a split.

Adapt Physical Therapy 3B Christian Miles slides into third base as Building Champions 3B Logan Shull applies a tag Wednesday, June 8, at Creekside Baseball Complex.

Adapt led 2-1 in the opening game before DH Tyler Sardelli (Blue Valley Southwest/uncommitted) tied the game with an RBI single and SS Tate Moody (Shawnee Mission East/Wichita State) put BC in front with a two-run single in the decisive fourth frame.

RHP Luke Schmedding (Blue Valley Southwest/Benedictine), who pitched three shutout innings in relief during the middle innings, picked up the win.

During the second game, Adapt spotted BC a one-run lead on C Sam McAleer’s (Blue Valley/Wichita State) third-inning RBI double before the offense got untracked.

1B Tyler Marchand (Bishop Miege/Benedictine) put Adapt in front with an RBI single during a two-run bottom of the third before four walks helped propel a four-run fourth inning.

RHP Mason McConnaughey (Seaman [Topeka]/Cloud County CC) allowed only one unearned run in four innings, striking out five against two hits and three walks to earn the win.
