This week in BJCL baseball — Tuesday’s results

Legends outlast Raiders in extra innings

Seven innings weren’t enough to settle things between the BJ Raiders and Ban Johnson Legends, who went to extra innings tied at a run apiece Tuesday at Creekside Baseball Complex in Parkville.

An error and 3B Brendyn Bard’s (Piper/Kansas City Kansas CC) RBI single put the Legends up 3-1 in the top of the eighth and the Raiders weren’t able to answer in a hard-fought loss.

Both starters threw well enough to win, but Legends RHP Hunter Edwards (Blue Valley/Johnson County CC), who struck out six in four innings of one-hit baseball, and Raiders RHP Chandler Ashby (Park Hill/Crowder CC), who struck out eight in six innings, didn’t factor in the decision.

BC hangs on vs. Mustangs

Building Champions took a commanding lead with a nine-run third inning then fended off the Milgram Mustangs in a 10-9 win.

3B Jackson Mervosh (Olathe South/Saint Louis) singled twice and drove in three runs as BC sent 13 batters to the plate in the decisive frame.

RF Levi Martin (Olathe South/Flagler [Florida]) added an RBI double, while 2B Blake Anderson (St. Thomas Aquinas/Johnson County CC) and DH Sam McAleer (Blue Valley/Wichita State) chipped in RBI singles during the outburst.

CF Chase Jans (Blue Valley/Kansas), who doubled to start the third and also singled and scored twice in the inning, finished 3-of-4 with three runs scored for BC.

Prospects pound Macaws

The Adapt Physical Therapy Prospects scored at least one run in every inning, jumping out to a 12-run lead midway through the third and cruising to a 16-8 victory against the MBC Academy Macaws.

1B Tyler Marchand (Bishop Miege/Benedictine) finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs in the romp to lead the Prospects.

The weather has finally started cooperating after some early-season rainouts across the BJCL.

SS Jonathan Davis (Olathe West/Hutchinson CC) also had three hits, including a double, while 3B Jake Galloway (Lee’s Summit West) and C Trevor McCorkle (Fife [Washington]/Missouri Western) scored three times apiece.

Stars double up Regal

The Creche Innovations Stars scored seven first-inning runs and rolled to a 10-5 win against Regal Plastic.

DH Trevor Blackwell (Blue Springs/Alabama A&M) cracked an RBI single and 1B Devon Lujan (Olathe East/Friends) followed with a two-run single to get the early fireworks started at the plate for the Stars before CF Chandler Miller (Basehor-Linwood/Barton CC) launched a grand slam.

C Caden Matlon (Grain Valley/Dodge City CC) added a two-run bomb an inning later as the Stars’ lead grew and proved insurmountable.

RHP Christian Johnson (Raytown/Cowley CC), who struck out seven in four innings, was the beneficiary of all that run support from the Stars.

NBA erases early deficit to top Knights

Natural Baseball Academy spotted the KC Knights a four-run lead in the first three innings before turning things around with a seven-run fourth inning en route to a 9-7 win.

3B Travis Curry (Olathe South/Avila) had an RBI single, DH Joe Lopez (Bishop Miege/Benedictine) added a two-run single, SS Blake Venneman (Olathe East/Allen CC) chipped in an RBI double and scored on an RBI single from 1B George Andrews (Blue Valley West/Allen CC) during NBA’s big inning.
