Mustangs stay hot, sweep Macaws

The Milgram Mustangs spotted the MBC Academy Macaws a lead in both ends of a doubleheader Sunday at Creekside Baseball Complex in Parkville only to rally for 6-2 and 7-6 wins.

The Macaws scored a first-inning run, but the Mustangs — who improved to 6-0 with the sweep — answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed again.

2B Peyton Lewis (Blue Springs/Baker) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and LF Palmer Holst (Liberty) drove in two in support of LHP Zachary Brink (Olathe Northwest/Butler CC), who allowed two runs on a hit and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

During the second game, the Mustangs spotted the Macaws a 4-0 lead before a five-run fifth turned the game around.

DH William Brant (Shawnee Mission East/William Jewell) and RF Nate Burdette (Maranatha Christian/Dawson [Montana] CC) each had two hits. 1B Derek Blackmore (Rockhurst/Arkansas-Pine Bluff), who finished with three RBIs, and Burdette ripped back-to-back doubles to key the fifth-inning rally.

C Hunter Moffet (St. Thomas Aquinas/Benedictine) reached base three times and drove in two for the Macaws, who got five-plus scoreless innings from RHP Harper Beattie (East Buchanan/Benedictine) before he ran out of steam in the sixth inning.

BC knocks Legends from unbeaten ranks

The Ban Johnson Legends opened a doubleheader against Building Champions with a 6-3 win, but BC knocked the Legends from the unbeaten ranks with a 10-0 shutout in the second game.

The Legends broke a 2-2 deadlock with a four-run third inning, which featured a two-run single by C Cade Meek (Park Hill South/St. Ambrose [Iowa]) and a two-run double by LF Matt Brimacombe (Blue Valley North/Central Missouri).

During the nightcap, BC jumped in front with a five-run first inning and never looked back in a five-inning win.

RHP Luke Schmedding (Blue Valley Southwest/Benedictine) allowed only a third-inning single to 2B Alex Rodriguez (Park Hill South/Park) and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings before RHP Preston Giltner (Blue Valley/Johnson County CC) closed the game with a perfect fifth inning.

SS Tate Moody (Shawnee Mission East/Wichita State) and 3B Jackson Mervosh (Olathe South/Saint Louis) each had two-run singles in the opening frame. Moody and LF Harrison Juhl (Lawrence Free State) each had two hits, while C Sam McAleer (Blue Valley/Wichita State) homered and scored three times and both Moody and 1B Tyler Sardelli (Blue Valley Southwest) drove in three runs apiece.

NBA sweeps Giants

Natural Baseball Academy slugged its way to a 14-1 win in the opener and finished off a sweep against the NKC Apartments Giants with a 6-4 win.

NBA scored six in the second inning and five in the third to take control in the five-inning, run-rule victory to start the doubleheader with SS Blake Venneman (Olathe East/Allen CC), RF Carson Steiner (Olathe East/Missouri-St. Louis), LF Eli Shields (St. James Academy/Allen CC) and CF Joe Lopez (Bishop Miege/Benedictine) contributing two hits apiece.

2B Gabe Williams (Olathe East/Rockhurst), who tripled, led the way with four RBIs and Venneman added three RBIs behind LHP Andrew Ryan (Olathe North/Benedictine), who allowed only two hits and four walks with nine strikeouts in the five-inning complete game.

After spotting the Giants an early two-run lead, NBA rallied in the middle innings.

Venneman, 1B Ben Brandt (Shawnee Mission South/St. Mary) and DH George Andrews (Blue Valley West/Allen CC), who launched a two-run home run to take the lead in the third inning, each had two hits for NBA.

Knights stun Raiders in doubleheader split

After falling behind 7-2, the KC Knights bats woke up and powered a 8-7 comeback win in the opening game of a doubleheader split with the BJ Raiders.

CF Spencer Miller (Smithville/Metropolitan CC), LF Hayden Thornton (Staley/Metropolitan CC) and 3B Travis Nichols (Lee’s Summit North/Pittsburg State) all had run-producing singles in a seven-run third inning for the Raiders, but 1B Brandon Walker (Piper/Park) and 2B Jackson Truman (Lee’s Summit West/Emporia State) answered with run-producing singles in a four-run fourth as the rally got going.

Truman added another RBI single, which tied the game in the sixth, before SS Luke Scalf (Rockwood Summit [Fenton, Mo.]/Rockhurst) delivered the walk-off RBI single in the seventh.

The Raiders rebounded with a 13-0, five-inning win behind RHP Matthew Nolan (Shawnee Mission Northwest/Northwestern Oklahoma State), who earned the win with four shutout innings, scattering two hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Thornton and LF Ben Walsh (Rockhurst/Johnson County CC) each homered and drove in three runs, while Thornton, Nichols and C Gavin Siegfried (Staley/Crowder CC) had two hits each in the Raiders’ victory.

Regal, Royals split doubleheader

Regal Plastic got six strong innings from RHP Derrick Evers (Father Tolton Catholic [Columbia, Mo./Rockhurst) and rode a four-run sixth inning to a 5-3 win in the opener against MSBL Royals.

1B Benit Thacker (Staley/State Fair CC) keyed the late rally with a two-run double — finishing 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs — but the Royals bounced back for a 9-2 victory to split the doubleheader.

LHP Gavin Wakefield (Blue Valley Southwest/Newman) allowed a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, but that was all he gave up in four innings. 

RHP Lanz Heath (De Soto/Pittsburg State), RHP Thomas Ford (St. Thomas Aquinas/Newman) and LHP Seth Kilbourn (Lee’s Summit/Avila) each followed with a scoreless relief inning for the Royals, who got two hits apiece from CF Josh Holmes (Shawnee Mission West/Butler CC), 3B Lucas Pringle (Mill Valley/Neosho County CC) and C Quin Smith (Rockhurst/Avila) in the win.

Stars overpower Prospects in slugfest

Originally rescheduled for Sunday, the Creche Innovations Stars and Adapt Physical Therapy Prospects met Tuesday instead with the Stars claiming a 17-9 victory.

Powered by a seven-run second inning, the Stars never trailed, though the Prospects pulled within 9-8 with a four-run fifth inning before coughing up six runs in the top of the sixth.

RF Jake Miller (Smithville/Metropolitan CC) went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, while CF Chandler Miller (Basehor-Linwood/Barton CC) went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs and LF Luke Moore (Park Hill/Johnson County CC) had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.

3B Christian Miles (Lee’s Summit North/Metropolitan CC) paced the Prospects’ attack, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs, while SS Jonathan Davis (Olathe West/Hutchinson CC), 2B Chase Pearson (Blue Valley/Benedictine), LF Jacob Butash (Gardner-Edgerton/Newman) and 1B Tyler Marchand (Bishop Miege/Benedictine) each had two hits.
